The Speech and Stuttering Institute is hiring! We are currently looking for an Executive Director who can build a vision for our future and grow our bottom line.
The ability to communicate our wants and needs is something many of us take for granted. It’s hard to imagine what it would be like not to be able to express what we want with ease and be understood. For many, this is the case. Many Canadians are either born with, or develop impairments that impede their ability to communicate clearly with those around them.
We are The Speech and Stuttering Institute, a non-profit leader in Toronto, offering therapy to children and adults with speech and stuttering challenges. We provide clinical service, as well as education and training to professionals. We engage in cutting edge research to unearth the root causes of speech related challenges in order to find the most effective treatment methods. From service delivery, to education and research, we do it all.
That’s where you come in
As our new Executive Director, your primary goal is to provide strategic and visionary leadership for our organization. To do this you will focus on revenue generation, restructuring, negotiating, and spearhead our training.
Revenue Generation:
You have a genuine desire to increase our bottom line. You will work with our fundraiser and coordinators on marketing and development as well as working closely with other executive board members to share your ideas and solutions. Things to consider may be ideas to reduce expenses, utilizing more tax benefits and exploring additional government grants, and/or limiting the cost of capital as necessary. These are a handful of operations adjustments suggestions we have, but we are hoping you have some tricks up your sleeve to increase our bottom line.
Restructure:
Restructuring the organization is a large aspect of your role. You will look into how things are currently functioning and what we can do to make our programs even better and more efficient. You will examine policies, budgeting, staffing, our clinical services and more. Then you will work with us to create a shared vision, and make the structural adjustments needed.
Negotiate:
You will meet with our ministry partners. You will educate them as to what we are working on, our contribution to society, and the important outcomes that we have produced. You know how to negotiate in a firm, positive, and kind manner, while getting the best results possible for the government grants that we receive. You will also form relationships with all of our other stakeholders including donors to ensure that our fundraising efforts are continuing to bring positive results.
Train:
We have many speech-language pathologists travelling within Ontario to train professionals on the most current treatments for children and adults. Your main role in this category is to understand our products and services, stay in the know about industry developments, and emphasize the sustainability of our training programs.
You will also design and execute strategies to increase our scope and capabilities. You will be a key player to our organization as you build productive relationships with our government partners, improve our bottom line, and build a vision for our future.
The very best in this role will be:
- Visionary – strategy comes naturally to you. You can see opportunities for partnerships that accelerate the needs of all parties and can inspire others to act on these.
- Strategic – you think in terms of options, strategies, and results. You are able to provide the big, visionary picture, and then do all the necessary tactical work to achieve that vision.
- Motivated – you are passionate about our purpose and are always looking for ways to make a difference.
- Creative – you understand the challenges we face as an organization, and seek unique solutions to those challenges.
