Workshop Description
This workshop will review a conceptual model for empowering advocacy skills in children and teens who stutter. It includes specific case examples and strategies therapists can apply immediately. Case examples will support various ways strategies may be implemented, with a focus upon care that is person-centered.

Kristin Chmela, M.A., CCC-SLP, BCS-SCF Certified in Mindfulness, Yoga, and Trauma Informed Care

Kristen Chmela, MA, CCC-SLP is an internationally respected speech-language pathologist, author, and speaker who has dedicated her career to helping young children who stutter and the families who support them. Known for her practical, evidence-informed approach, Kristen translates research into strategies that parents and clinicians can use immediately to build confidence, reduce communication pressure, and foster resilient, joyful communication. She contributes tirelessly to our profession through her work with the Stuttering Foundation of America, Camp Shout Out, and highly regarded therapy resources used by speech-language pathologists around the world including The School-Age Child Who Stutters: Working Effectively with Attitudes and Emotions. As a person with a lived experience of stuttering, Kristen’s engaging and compassionate teaching style will leave you with practical tools, fresh insights, and renewed confidence to support children who stutter.
