The Speech & Stuttering Institute is a non-profit agency and a Canadian registered charity. Fees for clinical services are used exclusively to cover professional time and overhead. While our clinicians have built up decades of experience and expertise focused on the treatment of speech production difficulties and stuttering, our fees remain below those recommended for SLP services in Ontario, for the public benefit.

Please speak with your SLP in advance to get an approximate estimate of the time required for your Clinical/Professional Service requests. Fees are due prior to the release of written reports.
We accept Visa, Mastercard, Amex and Discover credit cards, and Visa debit cards through our secure online payment system. We ask that clients leave a credit card on file at the time of initial assessment; the card on file will be charged for sessions/group fees per our Fee & Attendance policies.
- Individual Sessions: payment is due at the time of service.
- Group Programs: a deposit is required to reserve your space in the group; the balance is due one week before the group program begins. Instalment payments may be arranged based on individual circumstances.
The full session fee will be billed for no-shows and for individual sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours notice.
This fee may be waived in cases of emergency, illness, or inclement weather; please speak with your clinician about any extenuating cirucmstances. When we are provided with advance notice we can offer cancelled appointment times to other clients. Your SLP will provide you with complete information on SSI’s Fee & Attendance policies and will answer your questions as part of the consent process.
Refunds cannot be provided for missed group sessions, even with more than 24 hours notice.
At this time, SSI does not provide direct billing to insurance companies; our billing relationship is with you. We provide an official therapy receipt for all sessions attended upon payment. Clients with benefits for Speech-Language Pathology services may use this receipt to seek reimbursement through your insurance provider/benefits plan.
Official therapy receipts are issued in the name of the client, and will reflect the service provided, including session type (individual/group), duration, fee, and location (virtual or in clinic). For services involving caregiver training, the receipt will be issued in the name of the client; parents/caregivers may request a note on the receipt indicating the portion of the service dedicated to caregiver training along with the name of the parent/caregiver in attendance. Please let your SLP know in advance so that they can specify this information, if applicable. Please check with your individual Insurance company/benefits plan to determine whether or not these services can be claimed under the parent/caregiver’s plan.
Some clients may be eligible for the Disability Tax Credit under the “speaking” category. If your SLP has sufficient assessment and/or treatment information, she can complete the relevant section of the DTC form, but it is the Canada Revenue Agency that will determine your eligibility. If you are requesting completion of the DTC Form based on your initial evaluation/assessment, please notify your Speech-Language Pathologist before your initial appointment to ensure that the appropriate information is gathered. See Clinical/Professional Services section above for fee information.
Fees for services by a Speech-Language Pathologist may be eligible for a medical expense tax credit. Click here for more information on the Medical Expense Tax Credit
